Short answer: an acid tab is a small square of absorbent blotter paper that a liquid lysergamide solution was dropped onto and dried. The paper carries nothing on its own — everything depends on what was in the solution and how evenly it was applied.

What a tab is made of
Perforated blotter art, usually around a quarter-inch square, printed with ink and dosed from a solution. Because the paper is the delivery medium rather than the drug, appearance tells you nothing about strength. Bright artwork is marketing, not a potency label.
Why strength varies so much
Three variables: the concentration of the original solution, how evenly it was distributed across the sheet, and how the sheet was stored afterwards. Uneven application means two squares from the same sheet can differ substantially. Light, heat and humidity all degrade lysergamides over time.
The substitution problem
Blotter has been used to distribute NBOMe compounds, DOx compounds and other research chemicals, several of which are active at similar paper-sized amounts but have a far narrower margin for error. This is the single biggest risk associated with unknown blotter, and it is why drug-checking services exist.
Legal status in Canada
LSD is a Schedule III controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Possession, production, distribution and importation are criminal offences outside authorised research or special access. Psilocybin sits under the same Act, with its own separate legal history.
